** Another SkinGenesis Client ** | Why choose IPL thread vein (spider vein) removal over laser vein removal?
Our IPL machines are more powerful than most lasers and yet their ability to deliver the energy to suit the density of your thread/ spider veins and the condition of your skin means that the risks associated with laser thread vein removal are greatly reduced.
Why choose IPL thread vein (spider vein) removal over sclerotherapy?
IPL does not carry any of the risks of bruising or prolonged discomfort associated with sclerotherapy. You will find also that sclerotherapy is not suitable for all areas, especially on your face near the eyes, or anywhere on the body near an artery.
Our Thread Vein (Spider Vein) programme will:
Our Thread Vein (Spider Vein) Removal treatment is for people who:
N.B. This treatment is only suitable for persons with pale skins
Why does it work and why do I need several treatments?
The Intense Pulsed Light causes the blood based lesions - i.e. the blood in the thread veins - to coagulate gradually, over the course of a series of treatments. The coagulated blood is scavenged by natural processes within your skin (by microphages) and disappears gradually similar to the way that a bruise disappears after a few days.
IPL is the very latest treatment for the removal of blood based lesions. IPL uses specific wavelengths of light in the green/ yellow spectra that are the optimum for absorption by the haemoglobin and oxyhaemoglobin in blood yet at the same time minimizing the trauma to the surrounding skin. IPL differs from laser by being able to deliver greater energies at optimum wavelengths while causing less damage to the skin. IPL is especially suitable for treating large areas of veins and if you require effective treatment with minimal disruption to your daily routines.
Does it hurt?
You should find the treatment quite tolerable. When the light is emitted there is a sharp sensation of a hot pinprick. IPL is very quick and less unpleasant and traumatic than alternative treatments. As the skin is not broken during the treatment there is no risk of infection, scabbing or scarring. IPL is suitable for any area of skin.
Whats the recovery time?
Normally you wont need any recovery time. However in some circumstances where the treated area has a high density of lesions we will apply some cooling pads. Normally you should expect the treated area to be slightly red for about an hour after treatment although in some circumstances the redness may last for up to 24 hours.
Don’t worry about your makeup. For facial treatments we will have to remove your makeup but after the treatment we will apply our own mineral makeup – just ask your therapist - so that you can leave with your head held high!
We advise clients not to apply makeup immediately after treatment as a general rule but, in fact, mineral makeup is fine – it’s known as the "skin care makeup" as it is anti-bacterial, non-clogging and acts as a sun protection factor. It’s really good stuff and was developed for people who wanted high coverage makeup following laser skin resurfacing. We can show you the pictures when you come in!
How many treatment will I need?
We have to work with you on this one as a lot depends on the result you want. As a guide, a reduction in visible lesions is normally noticeable after 2 treatments. For most clients between 5 10 treatments are required. The treatment interval is about 3 weeks.
Cost (full face)
The treatments work out at around 55 per visit for small areas. The treatment programmes are priced individually depending on the area to be treated but your consultation is free of charge so please come to the clinic for the best advice. Discounts are given for multiple areas and if youre a student well give you a further 10% discount.
Are there any reasons why you might not allow me to have a treatment?
If you are pregnant you are going to have to wait until after the happy day. If you suffer from epilepsy or light induced skin rashes then IPL isnt for you.
The treatment is only suitable for light skin colours.
You must avoid suntans while on a course of IPL treatments.
What are the risks?
You may find the treatment uncomfortable. Because of the high energies required there is a very small risk of burning or blistering of the treated area which is further reduced by effective cooling of the treated area. In rare circumstances clients have experienced short term swelling of the treated area.
There are no long-term adverse side effects.
In the USA IPL has FDA approval for the treatment of vascular lesions.
Are there other benefits?
IPL skin treatments have the additional benefit of having a rejuvenating effect on the skin.
