Method of Thread Vein and Spider Vein Removal treatment

Blood based lesions are removed by selective coagulation using a series of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments.

IPL is the very latest treatment for the removal of blood based lesions. IPL uses specific wavelengths of light in the green/ yellow spectra that are the optimum for absorption by the hemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin in blood yet at the same time minimizing the trauma to the surrounding skin. IPL differs from laser by being able to deliver greater energies at optimum wavelengths while causing less damage to the skin. IPL is especially suitable for treating large areas of veins and for clients who require effective treatment with minimal disruption to their daily routines.

Treatment commences with a thorough cleansing of the area. Eye protection is applied for the duration of the procedure. The area to be treated is covered in a special optical gel. The gel will keep the area cool while enabling the transmission of light into the skin. A light applicator is pressed against the skin and a short pulse of high-energy light is emitted treating all blood based lesions in an area of 5cm². The applicator is then moved to an adjacent area and the process is repeated until all the lesions have been treated. The gel is then removed and aloe vera is applied to the treated area. In some circumstances topical cooling may be applied to the treated area.

Most clients find the treatment quite tolerable. When the light is emitted there is a sharp sensation of a hot pinprick. IPL is very quick and less unpleasant and traumatic than alternative treatments. As the skin is not broken during the treatment there is no risk of infection, scabbing or scarring. IPL is suitable for any area of skin.

Recovery Time after Thread Vein and Spider Vein Removal Treatment

For most clients no recovery time is needed. However in some circumstances where the treated area has a high density of lesions topical cooling may be required. Normally clients should expect the treated area to be slightly red for about an hour after treatment although in some circumstances the redness may last for up to 24 hours.

The amount of treatments depends on the expected result. A reduction in visible lesions is normally noticeable after 2 treatments. For most clients between 5 10 treatments are required. The treatment interval is about 3 weeks.

Risks

Some clients find the treatment uncomfortable. Because of the high energies required there is a risk of burning or blistering of the treated area. The risk is very small however and is further reduced by effective cooling of the treated area. In rare circumstances clients have experienced short term swelling of the treated area.

There are no long-term adverse side effects.
