Your skin partner for life!

Wow! What a day Gillian has had at the skin clinic. Chemical Peels, Microdermabrasion, Intense Pulsed light (IPL or similar to Laser), a bit of SkinGym Skin Rejuvenation, Body Exfoliation and, finally, a lesson in Youngblood cosmetic mineral makeup!

Hear what she thought about it all.

You'll remember she's looking to improve skin tone and skin texture, and generally address the natural signs of ageing.   You can see other videos of Gillian - winner of one of the Bare Skin Awards - by clicking on the 'Bare Skin Awards' tag.

Recently we were asked for skin treatments by one of our business contacts in Leeds.  Andrew was getting quite irritated by a non-specific skin condition which was leaving his skin inflamed.

Lynn carried out an Expert Skin Analysis which revealed  a poor balance and a lack of knowledge on Andrew's part on how best to care for his skin.  Armed with the right rebalancing DermaQuest products Andrew went away to 'prep' his skin before coming for skin treatment.

Since then he has been in for chemical peels and IPL (Intense pulsed light) and is very pleased how the skin treatments have calmed the skin's inflammation.  He's very pleased he overcame his initial scepticism and sought help at the skin clinic

He feels his skin is much improved (despite suffering an insect bite at the time of the video!) and recorded his thoughts here:

The Dermamelan pigmentation treatment scores another hit!  Alka recorded these comments when she came in for a review a few weeks after receiving her Dermamelan treatment.

In the video Alka describes how her skin has a beautifully even skin tone and how pleased she is with the results. She also talks about the experience of coming to the SkinGenesis skin clinic for treatment.

Before having her microdermabrasion, Gillian recorded a short video clip which you can see here.  Gillian won the Bare Skin Award at Top Model UK 2010 but is seeking to improve her skin further - particularly skin tone and skin texture.

You may know that the microdermabrasion treatment takes about 10 - 15 minutes and so you'll appreciate that we had to do a bit of editing to make the video watchable!

Anyway, the video below shows Top Model UK winner Gillian having her first ever microdermabrasion at a skin clinic. She discusses with Deborah the benefits of skin treatment.

Don't forget, if, like Gillian, you've never had a microdermabrasion before you can call any of the SkinGenesis skin clinics and arrange a time to come in for a trial microdermabrasion for just £35.

To celebrate the spell of sunny weather we're having, our Safety in the Sun campaign has taken to the streets - and to the airwaves.

Peter had an early start to get across to the Bradford studio of BBC Radio Leeds after being invited to appear on the Daragh Corcoran show this morning.  You can hear the interview here - and I've mixed it with some UV images of pigmentation from  hidden sun damage as a reminder of needing to strike the right balance when it comes to sun exposure.

Later in the day, the Leeds crew set up stall on Briggate - the main shopping street in Leeds - to give out free UV detector wristbands and personalised sun protection guides.  More about that in a later post.

A skin clinic visit was one of the prizes at the Top Model UK awards in London in March.  In fact the winners of the Bare Skin Awards, sponsored by SkinGenesis, have been invited to try any of our skin treatments to maintain and improve their skin tone and skin texture.

For Classic Category winner Gillian a trip to the skin clinic in Chester was a 'must do' and on arrival she recorded this short video clip:

You can see that Gillian is excited about her first visit to the SkinGenesis Skin Clinic in Chester.  When we met her at the Top Model UK competition she said she was interested in anti-ageing treatments and would like a more even skin tone and skin texture.

We will be recording some of the treatments she has - and her comments after-  over the coming weeks.

She went on to win her category, and the Bare Skin Award, and has now come to the skin clinic to improve her skin further.

Acne Cure

Posted by: william in MyBlog

We are often asked for an acne cure but, unfortunately, there is no such thing.

Any acne sufferer who has taken advantage of our expert skin health analysis will know that we always take great care to explain the various triggers that cause acne.  Once they understand that a cure for acne does not exist, they are eager to learn how to control the triggers and how to relieve the symptoms.

If you'd like to read more, go to acne cure.

Thanks.

I don't normally do the 'celebrity' thing but this hair removal story really is a sign of the times.

With non-surgical treatments like laser hair removal growing in popularity almost as fast (I wish!) as social networking phenomenon Twitter I never really expected to see them come together. But, last week, Kim Kardashian decided to combine the 2 and tweet about having laser hair removal treatment on her legs.

And she even published a photo!

What's interesting of course is the conversation prompted by a tweet like this.  Apparently she said it didn't hurt at all but one follower wasn't happy with this:

"Londonblue82  You lied @KimKardashian! You said laser hair removal doesn't hurt. I had it done this morning before work & I was kicking & squirming!"

You should have tried the luxury Ultra IPL hair removal used by SkinGenesis, Londonblue82!

Since we opened our first skin clinic in 2003 we have been registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to carry out IPL treatments (or laser treatments).

In order to register the skin clinics we have to submit our policies and protocols for scrutiny, and the Commission carries out an on-site inspection.  Any serious shortcomings mean that the clinic cannot operate IPL/ laser equipment legally, while minor shortcomings are noted and an action plan agreed (and followed up on) to ensure compliance with their National Minimum Standards.

We wholeheartedly support this process as the safety of the public is at stake and there is no place for cowboys.

The question is, how do we communicate with our clients that we are a registered laser clinic?  We have displayed the CQC logo on our website proudly but now the CQC are saying that no external organisation can use the logo.  So SkinGenesis, and other reputable registered skin clinics, can no longer differentiate themselves from the cowboys and that must surely put the public at risk.

I think it flies in the face of their stated aim "to make sure better care is provided for everyone".  I've just written to them and will let you know their response.

Footnote:

For those who are wondering, the Care Quality Commission used to the the Healthcare Commission, and back in 2003, laboured as the 'Commission for Healthcare Audit and Inspection'.

In case anyone has any doubts how these types of non-commercial organisation get through the millions of pounds they budget each year, think of all the wasted web design, stationery, brochures, employment contracts, signage etc etc. these name changes (vanity projects?) would have cost.   The mind boggles!

It's around this time of year that the benefits of laser hair removal - or IPL hair removal in our case - really become apparent.  That sense of freedom from shaving or waxing, knowing that you'll always be 'tidy' is totally liberating.

This is what Zoe had to say about her hair removal treatment at SkinGenesis:

As you know, we offer all types of hair removal including bikini hair removal, body hair removal, facial hair removal, hair removal for men, and PCOS hair reduction
