Visualize Your Goals and Make the Right Decision |
Secret Number 2Visualise Your Goals and Make the Right DecisionBefore you make an important decision about undergoing any procedure, whether surgical or non-surgical, you need to give yourself the best chance of being sure that you are making the right decision. A very useful approach is goal visualization because it will give you the right perspective, and confidence and motivation, to look for your best opportunities and to make the right decisions to achieve your goals. How this is best done is the subject of many books and well beyond the scope of this guide but if I can set out some of the principals, then you will be better prepared when you come to make your decision. Goals should always be positive and specific. In other words they should be where you want to move to (a positive goal), rather than something you want to move away from (a negative goal). This is because as you get nearer the positive goal your motivation increases, whereas as you get further way a from a negative goal your motivation decreases. This means that people who set positive goals are far more likely to reach their ultimate aim than people who set negative goals. As an example, consider two dieters who each want to lose 2 stone. One is happy to lose some weight, which is a negative goal, i.e. away from his current state; the other wants to fit into her size 12 dress, which is a positive goal. After some initial success the first dieter allows himself to relax his strict regime as he has successfully moved away from his original state. As a result his rate of weight loss slows down and he never achieves the 2 stone loss he thought he was focused on. The second dieter is pleased with her early weight loss and so can strongly visualize fitting that dress. This provides strong motivation to stick with the diet programme and she achieves her goal. Goals must also be realistic, and visualizing these goals is very important as it focuses your mind on where you want to be. In the context of this guide your goals shouldn’t just be about having perfect skin but be about the much bigger picture of your ultimate goals of wealth, health and happiness. Once you have strongly visualised these ultimate goals it will become much clearer where having better skin, or a more youthful appearance, fits into your ultimate goals. Most importantly, once you are clear how the procedure you are considering helps you towards your goals you are less likely to make a decision you may later regret. This is particularly true when deciding on surgery when there are viable non-surgical alternatives. There is a whole range of cosmetic procedures from the mild to the extreme, non-surgical to surgical. TV programmes have given people an appetite for ‘extreme makeovers’ often costing many thousands of pounds. Yes, the results are dramatic but will they really change people’s lives? And what about the risks? Careful goal visualization and time for reflection may show that less dramatic, less invasive, and less expensive procedures are all you need to take that next step towards your ultimate goals. Many of our non-surgical clients take quiet satisfaction from the fact that they haven’t resorted to surgery but, instead, have chosen something that boosts the health and vitality of their skin while removing or minimizing the aspects they were unhappy with. Non-surgical treatments are becoming increasingly popular for the simple fact they are not extreme, carry little or no risk and are very effective over time. This fits in nicely with most people’s goals in life.
