About our treatments Our chosen technologies are Microdermabrasion, Intense Pulsed Light (or IPL), Mesotherapy by Isophoresis (or Eporex Mesotherapy, aka 'no needle mesotherapy'), and Peels . The philosophy behind the SkinGenesis treatment programmes using these technologies is that they are:
This means our clients can realise fantastic improvements to their skin and body without any time off or disruption to their everyday life.
SkinGenesis treatments are based on four different yet compatible technologies:
The SkinGenesis microdermabrasion is medical quality and our 3rd generation ImageDerm machines allow us to regulate the flow of crystal and the intensity of the vacuum. Unlike other microdermabrasion machines, ours allow us to use various calibres of crystal ensuring you have the most appropriate treatment for your condition. For extra effect microdermabrasion can be combined with medical peels. Microdermabrasion removes dead skin and unblocks pores. The action of fine crystals jetted against the skins surface gently redefines the skins surface and the powerful vacuum action massages the lymphatic system. As with IPL, Microdermabrasion stimulates increased production of new skin and collagen.
Prior to treatment the area is thoroughly cleaned with a gentle cleansing solution. Each treatment involves passing a wand over the area to be treated. The wand emits crystal that loosens dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. The dead skin cells and crystal are simultaneously vacuumed away in a process that massages the skin in a manner designed to improve circulation, promote new cell growth and benefit the lymphatic system. The treatment provides a thorough exfoliation and the high vacuum unblocks congested pores. Microdermabrasion has been described by most of our clients as very relaxing and enjoyable. There is no pain and any reddening subsides after 5 minutes. SkinGenesis treatments that use Microdermabrasion include: ..also available on the SkinSpa Menu Call: Introduction
This is a high energy treatment that uses light to target and treat specific targets within the skin. We use equipment made by Energist, a British manufacturer with an excellent reputation for quality, which enables us to treat our clients effectively and safely. Although the output of our equipment exceeds most lasers, sophisticated computer controls make it less aggressive than a laser with greatly reduced risks of discomfort and adverse side effects. The light energy is absorbed naturally and, depending on how it is applied, can act beneficially on pigmentation in hair follicles, pigmentation in the skin, or blood lesions such as thread veins. In the case of hair follicles, the follicle is disabled by the light energy making it unable to support any more hair growth thereby achieving permanent hair removal. In other treatments the energy is absorbed in a way that disperses the unwanted pigmentation and blood lesions utilising natural skin renewal processes. In all IPL treatments the skin is stimulated to increase the rate at which new skin is produced as well as more collagen and elastin as an alternative to botox and fillers. Intense Pulsed Light for Hair Removal
For hair removal SkinGenesis uses Intense Pulsed Light technology rather than lasers as this provides better control and flexibility. IPL is generally safer and more effective than laser, however it requires greater training. All SkinGenesis therapists undergo extensive training in the use of the IPL and are externally certificated. Intense Pulsed Light selectively heats up the pigment in the hair follicle leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. The energy applied is sufficient to heat the root of the hair follicle to a high temperature without damaging the adjacent skin. If the hair follicle is in the "growing" stage the root of the hair will become permanently sterile and never again produce another hair. The treatment is quick, the underarms or bikini line can be treated in less than 15 minutes. It is very safe. It is safer (i.e. fewer adverse side effects) than waxing, plucking or electrolysis. The treatment feels like the snap of a rubber band. It is more comfortable than waxing, plucking or electrolysis. The treatment can cause burns but these are rare, and when they do occur are very superficial and heal quickly. All clients receive a free skin test before treatment which will ascertain risks of adverse side effects. There is normally no recovery time although clients are advised to avoid sports for 24 hours and protect against the sun. Ideal clients have dark hairs on a light skin. However all skin types can be safely treated except Afro-Caribbean and all hair types effectively treated except grey and red. Clients typically require somewhere between 6 - 8 treatments although this will vary from person to person. Age will affect how many treatments will be required with younger clients requiring more and older clients requiring fewer. Clients should expect to top up their treatments from time to time to kill any new hairs. The number of treatments a client may require together with te cost will be fully discussed at consultation. IPL hair removal treatments will rejuvenate the skin.
Intense Pulsed Light for Skin Rejuvenation - Photo Rejuvenation. Photo rejuvenation is a skin rejuvenation therapy with many beneficial side effects.
A course of photo rejuvenation will give the client the following benefits
IPL is not a pleasant treatment although it is not unduly painful. It uses high energies of light to penetrate the skin to stimulate skin cells. Blemishes within the skin will also absorb the light and cause the area to become heated. This heat will then treat the cause of the blemish. It is an excellent all round treatment. The effects of the treatment are slow to materialise. Benefits can take up to 2 months to become apparent. Photo rejuvenation normally requires a course of 5 treatments with 3 weekly intervals. Photo rejuvenation is only suitable for lighter skins. The darker the skin the greater the risk of adverse side effects. Photo rejuvenation normally requires only a little recovery time. Clients will experience a reddening of the skin which may last a few hours. However there is a potential of burning and blistering with the treatment and if the client has a severe reaction the skin may take several days to settle down. What is an Intense Pulsed Light treatment? Eye protection is worn for the duration of the procedure. The area to be treated is covered in a special optical gel. The gel will keep the area cool while enabling the transmission of light into the skin. A light applicator is pressed against the skin and a short pulse of high-energy light is emitted treating all blemishes in an area of 5cm2. The applicator is then moved to an adjacent area and the process is repeated until all the area has been treated. The gel is then removed and aloe vera is applied to the treated area. In some circumstances topical cooling may be applied to the treated area. SkinGenesis treatments that use Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) include:
Call: Mesotherapy is a natural medicine technique that stimulates the middle layer of the skin generally using herbal or homeopathic ingredients. The ingredients are introduced directly into the area requiring treatment ensuring outstanding results. SkinGenesis uses the Eporex Isophoresis transdermal delivery system which is unique in not requiring injections; this means a quick comfortable treatment without risk of infection. Treatment provides a more natural alternative to surgery with no recovery time and almost no risks. It is totally free of the risks of surgery. It is virtually painless, a tingling sensation is felt. It is very effective, although results will vary from person. Results will be affected by lifestyle as well as the severity and age of problem. Individual treatment sessions last about 30 minutes with no recovery time. Normally clients require a course of 7 treatments for maximum effect. Main treatments are:- Targeted fat reduction. Normally very good results are achieved with the right candidate. I.e. those with a healthy active lifestyle who wish to move stubborn areas of fat. This is not a treatment for obesity. Cellulite treatment. Normally moderate to good results. The results are better when combined with a home care regime. Stretch mark removal. Normally very good at taking the colour out of red stretch marks. White and silver marks are unaffected. Skin Toning. Good results especially on ladies who suffer from lax stomach skin tone after pregnancy. About a 50% improvement can be achieved with a course of treatments. A healthy active lifestyle will help results.
Prior to the treatment, the area is cleaned with a gentle cleansing solution. The area is then exfoliated and deep cleansed using an ultrasound spatula that glides over the skin. Natural, non-toxic mesotherapy ingredients are mixed with a gel that is massaged into the skin. Your hand is earthed using a special pad and the ingredients are then induced deep into the mesoderm layer of the skin using a process called isophoresis.
Call: Peels.
Peels - sometimes called chemical peels - can be resurfacing and or regenerative. However a peel designed primarily to resurface the skin will also have a certain regenerative effect and vice versa. A peel treatment involves applying layers of chemicals on the area to be treated and allowing the chemicals to react. The chemicals will either penetrate deeply into the skin stimulating a regenerative reaction or remove the dead skin cells on the surface. Peels are specific to the effect needed, whether it be decongestion, regenerative, pigmentation or resurfacing coarse skin. Peels vary in strength according to need and purpose. Some peels require little or no recovery time and can be performed in the lunch hour - see Agera medical formula peel below. Other peels, notably TCA peels, require increased recovery time and in such cases it can be up to a week before a new skin surface is apparent. Most peels require skin preparation in order to maximise the effect of the peel and minimise adverse side effects. Peels are normally very quick to perform; most can be done within 20 minutes. Peels are suitable for most skins; however darker skins can normally only tolerate the milder peels. Peels are normally very safe and although varying degrees of discomfort can be experienced, any discomfort is limited to a few minutes. Agera medical formula peel
This is an advanced peel that penetrates deep into the skin providing visible results without unsightly skin shedding, redness or irritation. We call this a 'non-ablative' peel. The deep acting peel stimulates the cells deep within the skin to promote collagen and elastin production while reducing blocked pores and bacteria. The combination of AHA, BHA and nano technology enable the epidermal and dermal layers of the skin to be treated safely and effectively.
What is an Agera medical formula peel?
Prior to the treatment the area is thoroughly cleansed. The area is then painted with layers of specially formulated acid according to your prescription. A warm tingling sensation is experienced. The area is then covered with cold wet flannels and the acids are activated. This activation process takes about 5 minutes during which the client feels a warm tingling sensation. The flannels are removed and the area dried. The skin is then treated with vitamin C serum and a vitamin and peptide enriched cream.
