New Year Detox Detrimental To Our Health - January 2008 |
|
With New Year diets in full swing, skin treatment experts SkinGenesis reveal the serious dangers of the detox. In a survey of their clients, a huge 61% of people revealed they were detoxing to lose some of the weight they put on over the festive season. This worrying statistic indicates people aren’t thinking of their health, but rather are looking for a quick fix to Christmas’s extra calories. Non-surgical cosmetic clinic SkinGenesis warn that detoxing purely for weight loss purposes can deprive the body of nutrients vital for health, and can be extremely damaging to the skin. They stress that detoxers should be careful not to eliminate important vitamins and minerals from their diet in a quest to purge their bodies. This can leave people feeling tired and rundown, as well as leaving the skin dry and lacklustre. The skin thrives on fatty acids found in oily fish, nuts and seeds, some of the foods which often eliminated due to their high calorie levels. Only 12% of detoxers are doing so to reduce the risk of heart disease, 9% to feel more alert and less tired, 7% to improve the skin quality, 5% to reduce cholesterol and only 2% to reduce the risk of diabetes. SkinGenesis encourage people to consider their overall health while detoxing, rather than looking for immediate solutions to festive excesses. They provide a full “skin health” MOT to all clients, to encourage them to look at the effects of their unhealthy lifestyle in a practical way, rather than embarking upon a dangerous diet in January. Their advanced photoanalysis technology allows them to diagnose and therefore effectively treat specific skin problems. William Haseldine, Director of SkinGenesis comments “At SkinGenesis, we believe people should look at the overall effects of detoxing or dieting on the skin. While depriving the body of vital nutrients might help weight loss, the skin will often react badly. Nutrition and good skincare will ensure you look as healthy as possible throughout the year.” ~Ends~ Issued on behalf of SkinGenesis by Adessi For more information contact Anna Geraghty at Adessi on Tel: (0113) 234 3862 or Fax: (0113) 243 9040 Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
