GET UGLY FOR YOUR SKIN DURING SUN AWARENESS WEEK

Skin Analysis and Sun Protection from Your Skin Partner for Life

Leading skin expert SkinGenesis is urging sunbathers to be extra vigilant this summer and to ‘get ugly for their skin’ to mark the start of Sun Awareness Week 2009.

340 women aged 20-29 are diagnosed with potentially deadly malignant melanoma each year 1 due to reckless binge-tanning in a bid to achieve the perfect summer glow.

However what lies beneath the bronzed goddess exterior is a darker, uglier story of premature aging and skin disease that can only be discovered under controlled UV photo imaging skin analysis.

Sun Awareness Week 2009, 11th – 17th May, is the British Association of Dermatologists’ annual drive to promote safety in the sun and is the perfect chance to raise awareness of the dangers of skin cancer and what we can do to prevent it.

Peter Beard, skin expert and director of SkinGenesis, said: “As the sun comes out across Britain, people rush outside to catch some rays and think it’s ok because they don’t do it that often. However it’s exactly this kind of ‘binge-tanning’ that causes the most damage to your skin.

“We all love the summer months and everyone likes to look good, however spotting the early signs and the right sun protection when you’re outdoors could save you from developing skin cancer.”

UV imaging analysis reveals the murkier depths of your skin and exposes the early signs of potential skin cancer and premature aging.

Peter added: “We’re encouraging everyone to get ugly for their skin with a free UV image analysis to find out how much sun damage has been done over the years.

“The images can be quite ugly and shocking because they reveal skin damage that cannot be seen by the naked eye. What’s more, with the summer holidays coming up, it’s important to identify potential cancer threats beforehand so that you can adequately protect your skin to avoid further problems and complications.”
