Billions Spent on Makeup as People Go Undercover - Jul 09 |
|
Latest statistics show that UK women still collectively spend £1.1billion every month 1 on make-up instead of facing up to problem skin. Leading non-surgical skin treatment clinic SkinGenesis predicts that whilst women are still spending hundreds every month on covering up their blemishes, only a fraction of their monthly income is spent on tackling skin problems underneath this mask. Peter Beard, director of treatments at SkinGenesis, said: "We were shocked at the latest stats that showed just how much money women are still spending on make up each month, particularly in the current conditions, illustrating that women are choosing to go under cover instead of facing skin problems head on. "With stress levels being higher than ever before, many of our clients are reporting skin flare-ups and we detect that instead of seeking long-term remedies to skin problems, people are hiding under a mask of make up and simply covering up their imperfections, which will only make matters worse." Treating over 200 clients at any one time at each of its clinics, SkinGenesis is urging people not to neglect their skin care routine in these troubled times. "As the body's main organ, it is so important to care for your skin adequately to avoid a lifetime of problems later on. Adopting a thorough skin care routine every morning and in the evening can set you on a path to healthy skin. "Wearing mineral make up is also much better for your skin than your average cosmetics as it doesn't contain any harsh chemicals or colours. Wearing less make up will give your skin the chance to breathe and after a few days you might be surprised at how much better you feel and look."
