85-90% of us will be affected by spots at some point in our life

The team at skin treatment clinic SkinGenesis, head office in Leeds are working to help improve the confidence of people who suffer with severe acne or acne scarring.  SkinGenesis clinics help to control acne and reduce acne scarring by acne treatment programmes using revolutionary and unique equipment.

SkinGenesis:  “Many acne sufferers experience low self-esteem and aren’t comfortable or confident with their appearance.  We treat a variety of patients who travel to our clinics simply for our excellent care and innovative treatments.  Acne scarring is a permanent ongoing reminder of the pain and we can actively reduce the scarring”

SkinGenesis are specialists in revitalising skin and giving it a new lease of life, this can be achieved through using treatments such as; IPL* and Microdermabrasion*.  These are the very latest treatments to clear up acne breakouts and remove scarring and blemishes from previous breakouts.

SkinGenesis: “Many people just don’t realise they can do something about their troublesome skin, their unwanted hair, their thread veins and their scarred skin etc.. It’s fantastic to see the difference in our patients’ appearance and attitude during and after their treatment”.

Acne can be caused by several factors.  Primarily it is a problem with abnormal flaking of cells inside the hair follicle.  This then causes a plug, which can lead to swelling and cause redness.  Bacteria that naturally live on the surface of the skin and an imbalance in hormones also add to the cause of acne.  Acne scars are caused by the body's inflammatory response to sebum, bacteria and dead cells that are trapped in the plugged follicle.  The scar is left by the process of the body's attempt to heal the damaged area.

Notes to Editors:

* What is a Microdermabrasion (MDB) treatment?
Prior to treatment the area is thoroughly cleaned with a gentle cleansing solution.  Each treatment involves passing a wand over the area to be treated.  The wand emits crystal that loosens dead skin cells on the surface of the skin.  The dead skin cells and crystal are simultaneously vacuumed away in a process that massages the skin in a manner designed to improve circulation, promote new cell growth and benefit the lymphatic system.  The treatment provides a thorough exfoliation and the high vacuum unblocks congested pores.

* What is an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment?
Eye protection is worn for the duration of the procedure.  The area to be treated is covered in a special optical gel.  The gel will keep the area cool while enabling the transmission of light into the skin.  A light applicator is pressed against the skin and a short pulse of highenergy light is emitted treating all blemishes in an area of 5cm2.  The applicator is then moved to an adjacent area and the process is repeated until all the area has been treated.  The gel is then removed and aloe vera is applied to the treated area.  In some circumstances topical cooling may be applied to the treated area.

Suitability:
Suitable for males and females of any age, skin type or skin colour looking to remove the incidence and severity of scarring, and achieve a smooth skin free of surface irregularities and a clear even complexion.
