Are men afraid of going under the knife?

Recent statistics have revealed that UK men are shying away from going under the knife for cosmetic improvements in favour of lower risk and less invasive procedures.

According the figures from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, men made up only 8% of the total 28,921 operations in 2006.

However at SkinGenesis, 40% of our clients were male in 2006, and for several of our treatments more men than women now access the services.

Did you know your skin needs fat to look healthy?

We've all been told to limit the amount of fat in our diet, and to ensure that no more than 35% of our daily food intake is fat. The government divides this guideline amount into saturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, monounsaturated fatty acids and transfatty acids. But how many of us really know which fats are good for us and which should be avoided altogether? And is food labelling really telling us the whole story?

Despite the media scare stories, we shouldn't remove fat from our diet altogether, and a lack of fat in our diets can lead to a number of deficiencies. Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are, as their name describes, essential for the body to perform correctly.

Read why essential Fatty Acids are vital to maintain healthy and glowing skin

About Pangaea Laboratories

In June 1999 Elliot Isaacs, a Physiology & Pharmacology graduate of the renowned Leeds University medical department, started the Pangaea Company. His immediate interest was in thread veins and broken capillaries which plague at least 50% of women and for which there was no cosmetic treatment.

Having little money to put his own biochemistry knowledge into action, he began working with colleagues in the US to produce a pharmaceutical grade vitamin K1 cream - the formulation he had earmarked as likely to be effective. It became a hot seller overnight and turned into one of those sales frenzies after several magazines reported incredible results.

Medik8 now consists of over 30 advanced skincare products, hailed a ‘must-have' line-up by celebrities such as Halle Berry , Donna Air and celebrity make-up artist John Gustafson.
