Sun Awareness Week+Bank Holiday=Rain

Last year we took part in a number of activities as part of sun awareness week and guess what… it rained all week!  However, at the start of Sun Awareness Week (7th May) we wanted to revisit this important issue and talk about the sun and how it affects our skin.

It is important to be aware of the sun and the steps you should take every day to ensure that your skin is protected from the damaging and ageing rays that beam down during our seemingly warmer and warmer summers.

We all know about the dangers of exposure to the sun these days but did you know there’s no such thing as a healthy tan?  A suntan is the result of melanin produced by the skin as a form of defence against UV rays but it is only equivalent of 4 SPF.  A tan is your skin’s way of telling you it has had too much sun.

So whilst we all need the sun for energy and to rid us of the winter blues we should also know some simple tips to keep safe and guard against premature aging of the skin in the sun.  This is what the British Association of Dermatologists says: -

  • Avoid sun between 11 am and 3 pm
  • Seek natural shade in the form of trees or other shelter
  • Wear clothing and hats as a sunscreen
  • Where your skin is exposed use an SPF of 15 or higher to protect against UVB and with additional UVA protection

If you have minor blemishes or older looking skin due to too much sun worshipping, why not drop in and see one of our team and we’ll see what we can do.  Some of our skin rejuvenation programmes could be perfect for you, click here to book online a free consultation with one of our specialists.
