Protect your skin this winter

While it might be too cold and rainy to consider leaving the house in January, following our tips can ensure that although the weather is dull, your skin doesn’t have to be! We know the constant battering your skin receives from the wind and that central heating can leave it dry and lacklustre, but there are ways to ensure you can look fresh and healthy from New Year right through until summer.

A hot bath or shower might be tempting when it’s so cold outside but the effects on your skin can be detrimental. In the short term, it will dry your skin out, and in the long term hot water can even cause thread veins. So, while you might feel it’s the best way to warm up, try having a lukewarm bath or shower instead and applying a moisturiser straight after getting out in order to lock in moisture.

Don’t forget about keeping your skin well hydrated during the winter months by drinking lots of water. While this might come naturally when the sun is blazing, it is no less important during the colder months. Drinking at least 2 litres of water a day will keep your skin moisturised and flush out toxins, leaving your skin fresh and healthy looking.

Lipbalm is also important during the winter months as your lips can dry out extremely quickly when you’re moving between the cold streets and a centrally heated house. A lipbalm with SPF will not only keep your lips moisturised, but will also protect them from harmful winter rays.

And don’t forget about sunblock during the winter months as even on cloudy days UVB rays can penetrate. If you’re going skiing, remember that your exposure will be even greater so it is even more important to protect your skin.

The golden rule for protecting your skin during the winter is moisture so remember to do everything you can to supply moisture top your skin. Whether this is by using a humidifier, slathering yourself in moisturiser or just drinking more water, by keeping your skin moist you can protect it from winter’s harsh weather.

So even if you don’t want to venture out and face the cold, by following our skin care tips you can ensure that your skin is glowing throughout the winter months.

Make 2007 all about you!

As the count down starts and the fireworks erupt, New Year brings with it a wave of promises about leading a healthier, happier life and resisting all temptation. Yet, if like most of us, you already know that getting to the end of January without faltering will be a real achievement, then remember you are not alone!

Although many New Year resolutions do go unachieved, one thing is for sure, most are usually about improving your physical fitness or appearance. So as numbers of gym memberships soar this month, we encourage you to consider a different kind of workout.

If you are serious about looking good in 2007, then join the SkinGym™ - an intensive 40 day anti aging rejuvenation programme that gives your skin a workout that results in toned, tightened and regenerated skin. Despite the pressure many of us feel, looking good is not just about being slim, toned and physically fit. Revitalised, healthy looking skin can actually make you look and feel younger, fresher and better about yourself.

In fact some radical diets and excessive exercise regimes typically embarked upon at this time of year may actually leave your skin looking more dull, tired and stressed. Of course, we are not endorsing a bad diet with no exercise, but we do believe it needn’t be extreme.

SkinGym™ combines Skin Therapy products and Advanced Nutritional supplements for home use with 6 x 1 hour treatments which will revitalise your skin and its underlying structure. This intensive programme is the perfect way to treat the symptoms of ageing and give you the confidence boost to look good and feel great in 2007.

Revolutionary new skin workout launches in Leeds

Launched to the regional media in late November, the latest SkinGenesis anti aging programme promises to be the ultimate fitness regime for your skin.  SkinGymTM, a new concept in skin care, is designed to be the world’s most intensive 40 day rejuvenation programme aimed at revitalising your skin and regenerating its underlying structure.

Journalists at the official launch of SkinGymTM at the SkinGenesis clinic in Leeds enjoyed a sneak preview of just some of the treatments available under this intensive rejuvenation programme and photographers snapped local celebrity Miss Leeds as she experienced one of the new treatments.

SkinGymTM has been developed in response to customer needs and each client will be given a personal programme and treatment schedule to tackle those skin issues that make them unhappy. The 40 day course combines at home skin therapy products and nutritional supplements with clinic based treatments such as peptide peels and masks, ultra–sonic skin toning and microdermabrasion.

“When people feel unhealthy they join a gym, start intensive training and apply a healthy eating programme to their diet. What do they do if they are unhappy with their skin?” Said Director Peter Beard. “Our customers want a bespoke skincare programme, like the one a personal trainer would give you for your body, that will tone, tighten, lift, regenerate and reduce wrinkles. That’s exactly what SkinGymTM does.”

If you think your skin needs a workout, then take a look at the SkinGymTM anti aging in more detail.

James Bond's skin

The new James Bond film, starring Daniel Craig, marks a return to form for 007.  Action packed, beautiful people and exotic locations - the new film has it all.  But where are all the gadgets?  Anyone expecting Q to pop up with another selection of insane devices will be disappointed.  But, of course, the boffins of Her Majesty’s Secret Service haven’t lost their edge and Bond only manages to fight on to save the day because he’s equipped with life saving gear.

More subtle was his miraculous ability to heal numerous scars from thrilling fight scenes that threatened to keep him away from the poker table.  We don’t know how this was done but the action was taking place in Montenegro – so no local SkinGenesis clinic for our James.

So what do you need to do to ensure your skin is in great condition and heals rapidly? You may not be taking on the world’s enemies but here at SkinGenesis we can help you win your fight - against wrinkles, ageing, lifeless skin and so on?

Just as good nutrition and hydration in the days and weeks leading up to surgery will ensure a speedy recovery, skin recovers from trauma more quickly if in optimum condition. James Bond clearly agrees. For our clients on the new SkinGymTM 40 day intensive anti aging skin rejuvenation programme, this means taking Advance Nutrition supplements along with Skin Therapy skin balancing products for 7 days prior to starting the weekly treatment sessions.  This thoroughly ‘preps’ the skin to get the maximum benefit in the shortest recovery time from each session in the SkinGymTM.

These Advanced Nutrition supplements contain minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids, and herbal extracts that are vital to healthy cell formation and which are usually lacking in our diets in optimum quantities.  The supplements have been formulated by Patrick Holford, guru of the Institute of Optimum Nutrition, and most people will feel benefits, beyond healthier skin, with improved levels of concentration, more energy, and even weight loss.

The Dermaquest Skin Therapy Balancing Kits, to be used at home, will cleanse the skin’s surface of accumulated dirt and debris, moisturising and hydrating skin while strengthening it’s immunological system. Designed to bring your skin to its optimal (or “balanced”) state, you will see and feel results almost immediately - normal skin feels more healthy, dry skin gains improved moistness and texture, oily skin produces less oil, and combination skin evens out in response to the conditions around it.

So while we can’t guarantee you Bond-like instant repair skin, we can help you to a balanced, nourished and healthy skin that will make you feel your best.  This is the best way to prepare for our professional clinic treatments but everyone can benefit, even if not considering treatments at this stage.

Women age faster than men

We all know the lengths women go to in order to find the perfect anti-ageing cream, and so we were interested to read a new study showing that women age faster than men.

This surprising finding was discovered when a German team of scientists employed a revolutionary new technique of examining the skin. Researchers shone infrared laser lights on the skin to look at deeper layers to measure ageing, damage from sun exposure and levels of collagen and elastin which are found naturally within the skin.

Both collagen and elastin are responsible for the strength and elasticity of the skin, and so are vital in preventing ageing. The surprising results or the research was that as women age, they lose collagen at a faster rate than men meaning they display more wrinkles.

Although researchers have yet to discover why women lose collagen more quickly than men, this new process of testing could revolutionise both medical and non-surgical skin treatment procedures. This new technique avoids damaging the top layer of skin, and scientists believe that in the future it could help them to analyse skin diseases as well as test anti-ageing products. Previously, the only way of examining collagen was by cutting out a piece of skin, and so this new discovery could transform research into various skin diseases.

Products that boost the collagen content of the skin have always been in high demand as they are believed to be the most effective is preventing ageing – such as our Dermaquest Skin Therapy range-  but claims made by cosmetic companies were hard to prove, something which could be about to change.
