Positive Effects of the Smoking Ban Chapter 2

In our September newsletter we reported how people that gave up smoking when the ban came in could expect to see differences in the health of their skin.

The information was well received and we were delighted to receive an invite to discuss the benefits of not smoking by BBC Radio.  Listen to a recording of the interview here.

Since then, the September newsletter you may have seen other interesting information relating to smoking and your skin in the news.

A recently published study in the 'British Journal of Dermatology' found that in 1,000 women aged between 25 and 50, 42 per cent of smokers suffered from acne compared to one in ten non-smokers.  It seems that smoking acts as a stimulant that can increase levels of the hormone testosterone in our bodies.  While commonly thought of as a male hormone, women also have a certain level of testosterone and, if this is boosted by smoking, those that have a sensitivity to testosterone are more likely to get acne.

If you have acne and would like relief from the symptons, please have a look at our acne treatment programmes.
